Counseling department’s goal is to promote health and wellness through prevention education, culturally sensitive crisis management, and short-term counseling. We seek to promote healthy living and prevent the development of maladaptative behaviour patterns.
As a school we listen to the demands of teen-agers, and together we try to create a better community and address issues in a way that leadership, among themselves is the result of all efforts.
Our Psychology Department detect overall developmental learning problems commonly related with language, psychomotricity, attention, vision, hearing and conduct.
Our psychologists suggest strategies to deal with these problems in the home or recommend specialized attention for the child. The psychologists follow the progress of the special attention in conjunction with the therapist, family and the school.
All new students to the Peterson Schools are interviewed by one of our psychologists to diagnose their development according to their age. If necessary, they will suggest strategies to develop abilities.
The Psychology Department supports our Values program through activities geared to each age group.
The Preschool Development Group promotes the emotional growth of Preschool children related to their self-knowledge, self-esteem and relationships with others. To give parents feedback on their child’s development, they are given a written report and asked to attend a meeting with the psychologist.
As part of its Healthy Schools program, the Psychology Department promotes an anti-bullying project. The project seeks to prevent problems before they happen and promote a physically and psychologically healthy environment for students.
The Peterson Educational Growth and Education (CRECE) program is directly related to informing parents in a variety of themes associated with child development. Prevention and problem-solving are its goals.
The Psychology Department also plays a role in the selection and hiring of school personnel. Applicant for positions at the Peterson Schools are given a psychological evaluation. A tutoring program helps new employees adapt to their jobs and the educational community.
The Psychology Department also gives employees courses and workshops directly related to working with children.
