Bilingual and Bicultural Primary School

The primary school at The Peterson Schools is laical, co-educational, bilingual and bicultural.

The primary school is incorporated with the Ministry of Education (SEP) and the Independent Schools Association of the Southwest (ISAS). These organizations certify studies at The Peterson Schools in Mexico and abroad.

Primary school is bilingual with students studying half a day in English and half a day in Spanish. By third grade, students dominate English sufficiently to be able to hold a conversation in that language.

The bicultural aspect of the primary school is shown by the celebration of U.S. and Mexican national holidays. Our students participate in field trips in Mexico and we have an exchange program with schools in the United States.

Students study music, art, computers and physical education in addition to the core academic subjects. They can also participate in extra-curricular activities such as athletics, drama, art and gymnastics.

In the primary, children follow a non-traditional course of study. They learn through reasoning and research, not through memorization. Homework is based on reviewing work done in the classroom and is not excessive. Teamwork is stressed in class activities.

Our Pedregal and Cuajimalpa campuses are equipped with mobile computer laboratories. They circulate between classrooms enabling every student to have access to a lap-top computer and a printer to support their projects and research.

Every one of The Peterson Schools' campuses has a full-time psychologist. They are constantly observing classrooms and students.

The Peterson Schools lay great stress on the importance of its values program. Students learn values through an ongoing program of practical experience.

Primary school students interact with the community at large through a variety of social service activities involving senior citizens, children with special needs and the poor.

Primary school students do not wear uniforms except for physical education classes and athletic events

The Peterson School's teaching staff comes from as many different national backgrounds as our student body does. This helps enrich the multicultural educational experience.

The Parents' Association is very active in the primary school at The Peterson Schools. It supports school expansion and improvement projects and organizes a variety of events.
