Director General’s Letter

By Kenneth Peterson

Every month Director General Kenneth Peterson will post a letter outlining the most important events at the Peterson Schools.

March 19, 2010

Dear Parents:

February has been a very eventful month for the School with many positive results. I am very happy to share that our students continue to do very well in external competitions. Our sixth grade students have succeeded in the official SEP competition known as the Olimpiada del Conocimiento, with our students from both Tlalpan and Cuajimalpa having won first place in their Districts (Zonas), and Pedregal having come in third place. For Cuajimalpa, this is the ninth time we have won since 1995! Our Robotics students from Primary and Middle School participated in the RobotiX Challenge at the Tec de Monterrey and walked away with top places in all the competitions!
In sports, our students have excelled as well. Our students were awarded the highly sought after Espíritu Deportivo trophy at the ASOMEX Juvenil B Basketball tournament in Pachuca, reflecting their overall sportsmanship and good behaviour. In addition, our Tlalpan boys soccer team won second place in the Interstate championship held last week in Acapulco, representing the Federal District.
Teacher training continues to be a priority for our School, with a great number of our faculty and staff participating in courses and conferences. This year, all of our teachers are dedicating at least one afternoon a week to training. We are taking advantage of our own internal talent to provide inservice opportunities, as well as using external training. Our teaches have recently taken advantage of programs offered at the School through Endicott College and for training in a program denominated Thinkquest. We have also been sending teachers and staff out to external congresses, including the ISAS bi-annual educators workshop in which we sent 10 teachers to Dallas to attend the conference and visit a Montessori school that is part of ISAS. We also sent a large group of teachers from all of the campuses to the annual bilingual schools association (IEPRM) congress. Upper School teachers have received training in competencies and learning skills and several are taking courses at the Universidad Anáhuac. This all forms part of our strategy of having highly competent, well prepared teachers working with your children.
Finally, I am pleased to announce that our School has been included in the Programa de Vinculación con Instituciones Educativas with the Tec de Monterrey in which our High School graduates are offered scholarships and a direct entry into the institution without having to do the entrance exam. This is for students with a 9.0 grade point average or higher, and now forms part of similar agreements that we have with the Universidad de Las Américas in Puebla and the Universidad Panamericana.

Sincerely,
Kenneth Peterson
Director General
